Enfanga`t 2007. Ceramic Event in SpainFrom the 4th-7th April in the town of Celra, near to the city of Girona in NE Spain the II edition of "Enfanga`t 2007" was held. Enfanga`t is a difficult word to translate into English. "Fang" in Catalan (the language spoken by the population of NE Spain, Languedoc-Roussillon (France), Valencia and The Balearic Islands) literally means "clay" and with the "t" at the end becomes a reflexive verb. It is sort of "to clay yourself all over". "Enfanga`t 2007" was organized by L`Associacio de Ceramistes de Girona" and saw demonstrations, workshops, firings, conferences, lectures and films. Invited artists were Richard Godfrey (UK), Ricardo Campos & Rosa Rosell (Catalunya), May Criado & Suso Moachon (Valladolid), Antonia Kriezler (Germany) and yours truly representing India/Japan. Enric Mestre from Valencia gave a very entertaining lecture about his work. The day started with a presentation by the Mayor and it was down to work as each invited artist got down to demonstrating his/her techniques. Interest was immense as more than 130 potters from all over Spain, Belguim, the UK, Japan, France and Germany crowded around the demonstrations to see what was at hand. The heavy rains meant that demonstrations were moved indoors. In another wing three shopping trolleys magically were transformed into chicken looking mobile kilns. Work was also started on The Flying Kiln. The last day saw the area in front of the station become a fiesta as tents sprung up and tables set for the various activities. The climax came with the launching of The Flying Kiln, a boy being born from a large clay egg and Devils of all shapes and sizes dancing about in glee. All in all a truly wonderful experience and many thanks to the Organizing Committee-Roser, German, Lluisa, Rosa, Emili and so many others. The event was possible due to the support of L`Ajuntament de Celra, L`Ajuntament de Girona, Diputacio de Girona, Centre d`Artesania de Catalunya and many commercial entitites. 20/05/2002
